Strong and Active Faith

"The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today. Let us move forward with strong and active faith."
Prepared for April 13, 1945

Even though President Franklin D. Roosevelt wrote this about seventy years ago, it still speaks to every one of us today.  If we free ourselves of the doubts we have and proceed with unwavering strength, we can accomplish more than we ever dreamed possible.  I return to this quote time and time again whenever I need bolstered and thought this was fitting for today’s post.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

“You’re not gonna give up”

All Things Are Possible

And having thus chosen our course, without guile, and with pure purpose, let us renew our trust in God, and go forward without fear, and with manly hearts.
--July 4, 1861 Message to Congress

I saw this quote and it applied perfectly to my mood today.  I’ve loved President Lincoln ever since I was a little tike, and this quote only strengthens my admiration of him.  To me, though, it transcends the man himself.  This is a gentle reminder, to me, at least, that if we trust in Him, all things are possible!

Have a good weekend, all!

A Poem for Hope

I saw this poem and thought it was a good one to post for the week.  As always, but especially at this time of year, I want to thank you for your support.  It is a time to reflect and prepare myself for the final push of the semester, and as all of you know, this is my last!  Your readership means the world to me, so thank you for investing your time and effort in this.  It means so much!  And now for the poem!

An Inspirational Thought,
Motivational Thought Poem for Hope

by Catherine Pulsifer

As long as we have hope, we have direction,
the energy to move, and the map to move by.
We have a hundred alternatives, a thousand paths and infinity of dreams.
Hopeful, we are halfway to where we want to go; Hopeless, we are lost forever.

Hope is the anticipation of an event or an occurrence.
Our own individual hopes are our own desires,
or could be considered our wish for the future.
Hope can give us a feeling of optimism when we are feeling discouraged.
As Diogenes once said, "Hope is the dream of a waking man."
Hope is one of the prime differences between successful people and those who can only see failure.

Successful people have hope because they can clearly see their goals.
People who only see failure have no hope because they see no light,
they set no goals, and they see nothing accomplished.
Successful people see alternatives and are willing to try different ways.
People who only see failure are unable to see another way and give up to easily.
With hope you are halfway to where you want to go; by setting your goals, and taking the action to achieve them,
you will see your hope turn into your reality!

Unending Hope

I know this is a recognizable piece of wisdom, but today I came upon it and spoke volumes to me.  As I feel the winds of change approach in my life, I find myself desperately clinging to things and routines I know and take refuge in them.  However, I have come to realize that the more I resist the hands of change; it is harder for me when it inevitably comes.  HOPE, I believe, is the guiding light that leads us ultimately to shore.

Hold On

Hi all.  It’s Friday again!  T.G.I.F.  This week, a friend read a poem I found very inspiring, so much I thought I’d share with you all.  It’s a feel-good piece.  I hope you find it as moving as I did.  If you feel the urge, please comment.  Everyone have a wonderful fall weekend!  And without further ado—the poem.

Hold on, my heart, in your believing—
Only the steadfast wins the crown;

He, who when stormy winds are heaving,
Parts with his anchor, will go down;

But he who Jesus holds through all,
Will stand, though Heaven and earth should fall.

Hold on!  An end will come to sorrow;
Hope from the dust will conquering rise;

The storm foretells a summer’s morrow;
The Cross points on to Paradise;
The Father reigns!  So cease all doubt;
Hold on, my heart.  Hold on. hold out.

Confirmation

Today, I’d like to express my utter joy I felt this week as I looked at UCP of Central Pennsylvania’s quarterly magazine.  It contained a book review I wrote during my time as an intern there this summer.  As a writer, I cannot express the true sense of accomplishment I felt as I read my words on the page.  That magazine article added clarity and purpose to my mission as I complete my final leg of my college journey.

Thanks to all!

P.S.  I just realized this is 100th blog.  Woo-hoo...What a fitting milestone!

Eunice's Hope

This video touches on two subjects very near and dear to my heart: individuals who have disabilities and the Kennedys.  Caught up in the glitz and glamour of JFK's presidency, I forget his sister worked tirelessly on behalf for those who had disabilities.  It is heart-warming to know this woman pioneered in making lives better for those who have special needs.  She made this a finer world and afforded hope for the future!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

A Journey to Remember

This weekend, after hearing about the passing of an acquaintance, I began to consider how precious life is and how we take some things so for granted.  At times it seems to me, at least, life is an unending road, fraught with challenges and decisions.  I know I have a tendency to become caught up in these very quickly and think all are life-altering events.  I’ve discovered, though, they are mere blips on the horizon, soon to be forgotten.  So, in the past few days, I promised myself to enjoy the passage, and yes, life’s road does end, but it is how you live the journey.  That’s a lesson we all need to remember, in the good as well as in the darkest times!

It Begins...Again

Today, I embarked on another leg of my journey.  My internship with UCP Central PA with the summer of 2013 officially started, and once again, my mind was fraught with anticipation mixed with a little nervousness.  It suddenly dawns on me, though as I write this, the ultimate meaning behind UCP Central PA, not only for me, but also to all that benefit from it.  From my standpoint, the letters UCP signify an air of endless possibilities, and yes, hope (how appropriate) for so many, me included.  I feel so privileged to be a part of this; I only hope that I fulfill my duties to the utmost this summer.  Wish me luck as I continue on this wild and wonderful quest!

I hope you have a good weekend!

The Journey Within

The only journey is the journey within.
Rainer Maria Rilke

I came across this quote today and thought it was fitting for an entry.  This saying is appealing because it is so true for me.  I feel as if I’m continuously growing, experiencing, and hopefully, going towards and knowing my inner light.  As humans, we, at times, forget we illuminate others with our own light, and if it dims slightly for a day, others can tell.  The above quote is true in one sense, but in another way, it is not.  I believe if we connect to just only one person in our lives, then our task as living beings is complete.  As I was reminded earlier this week, our inner light can illuminate others so much that the whole world sees it.  That makes it all worth it in the end.

Faith

 This week, the subject of faith has been on my mind.  Confronted with a daunting semester in the upcoming months, my first reaction, I’m sorry to say, was to quake with fear and put up resistance.  However, today, I realized my faith will carry me, like it has so often before this week.  Why do we become so easily unraveled and question our ability to create positive out of a difficult situation?  That, I do not know, but I must say the very thought of my strength and determination as a student calmed my fears and bolstered my reserve to give my all this semester, which will only cement my faith in the end.

Thank you, readers, for tuning in every week!  I am continuously amazed by the support you show by following my blog.   That, in itself, means a lot!
