Summer's End

I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful summer day.  The sun glimmering through the trees today reminds me about His promise to all of us.

Happy end of summer!

A Something in a Summer’s Day

Here’s one of my favorite poems written by Emily Dickinson that represents the waning days of summer.  I hope you enjoy this poem as much as I do.

Everyone have a good weekend!

A SOMETHING in a summer’s day,
As slow her flambeaux burn away,
Which solumnizes me.

A something in a summer’s noon,--
An azure depth, a wordless tune,
Transcending ecstasy,

And still within a summer’s night
A something so transporting bright,
I clap my hands to see;

Then veil my too inspecting face,
Lest such a subtle, shimmering grace
Flutter too far forme.

The wizard-fingers never rest,
The purple brook within the breast
Still chafes its narrow bed;

Still rears the East her amber flag,
Guides still the sun along the crag
His caravan of red,

Like flowers that heard the tale of dews,
But never deemed the dripping prize
Awaited their low brows;

Or bees, that thought the summer’s name
Some rumor of delirium
No summer could for them;

Or Artic creature, dimly stirred
By tropic hint, --some travelled bird
Imported to the wood;

Or wind’s bright signal to the ear,
Making that homely and severe,
Contented, known, before

The heaven unexpected came,
To lives that thought their worshipping
A too presumptuous psalm.

Summer’s End

Today, I sadly admit is the last day of my internship with UCP.  I thought I’d celebrate with a poem.  Again, thank you for your support.  I'll return to my Friday schedule next week, so keep your eyes peeled for more of my ramblings!  And now, my poem!

The wind in the trees tells of summer’s demise,
like a long-lost-friend beckoning to come home again—
I pause, knowing this is the end—
the end of a mystical, magical time—
I try to grasp harder, try to get a better hold of it all—
but time, time in its infinite wisdom says it is all for not—
I grasp to no avail—
“Was it “A Midsummer Night’s Dream?” I ask, slightly confused—
No, I realize—
it’s that brief time when everything’s right in the world—
a utopia of sorts—
soon to be gone—
Only to be spoken as myth to the young—
To be forgotten—
A brief time, indeed—
Never to be rediscovered—
To be remembered as a time in the sun—
There’ll be other summers certainly—
But this, this one is etched on my mind
For all time—
Eternity—
The winter wind will not erase the joy
felt in my heart—
My very being—
For this brief time
Indeed, summer will come again!

It Begins...Again

Today, I embarked on another leg of my journey.  My internship with UCP Central PA with the summer of 2013 officially started, and once again, my mind was fraught with anticipation mixed with a little nervousness.  It suddenly dawns on me, though as I write this, the ultimate meaning behind UCP Central PA, not only for me, but also to all that benefit from it.  From my standpoint, the letters UCP signify an air of endless possibilities, and yes, hope (how appropriate) for so many, me included.  I feel so privileged to be a part of this; I only hope that I fulfill my duties to the utmost this summer.  Wish me luck as I continue on this wild and wonderful quest!

Hemmingway and Me

Below is a part of an essay I wrote a few years ago for a writing class.  Although it’s been in my archives for years, I think it signifies life’s journey: not only for me, but also for all.  Enjoy!

                                                                                                                      July 19, 2008
Dear Diary,

        Today is a day I think I will remember for the rest of my life.  Imagine me—a published poet!  It’s a great milestone for my 27th year.  It’s hard to believe my thoughts and emotions are packaged with those of other poets in a book for the entire world to see.  It’s hard to wrap my mind around the magnitude of it all—and to think the poem was borne out of my spirit’s despair!
        I vividly recall how the poem first took seed in my mind.  About a month or two ago, I was feeling really low about my life, and about how it seemed I had made little progress.  The pace of my journey seemed so slow.  I pondered my fate as a writer, a college student, and as a human being in general.  “Where will this journey ultimately end up,” I asked myself.  I wondered if my trials and hard work would count for nothing and lead nowhere.
        Then, I began to remind myself of how very far I had come, just in the past two years.  Why was I in such of a hurry trying to accomplish my goals in such a short period of time?  I still have time. I have the rest of my life!
        Right now, the last stanza of my newly published poem echoes in my mind:
Hemmingway failed in
Life’s adventure.

Not Me.

Never me.

It was another awakening—just the beginning.  This summer has added another layer to my spirit.   I guess I’m ready and eager for life’s next adventure—no matter what it may hold and where it leads.
