Unlocking the Door to Independence

Read about this independent, strong young woman, who, with a little help from her friends, has the ability to unlock her own locker, thus her world.

I hope you all enjoy as much as I did.

Have a good weekend!

Unapolgetic Self Portraits

I wanted to this article with you all.  It again shows what a little (or a lot) of persistance can get you.  I’m truly amazed at these paintings and the artist behind them.

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Continuing Happiness

“Happiness is not determined by what’s happening around you, but rather what’s happening inside you.  Most people depend on others to gain happiness, but the truth is, it always comes from within.”

I’ve seen this quote many times, but it never quite sunk it.  My journey this summer proves this.  There are many twists and turns in the road called life, but the happiness in your soul alone truly uplifts and carries you through the lowest valleys and celebrates the highest mountains.  I hope you had as much as a wonderful summer as I did.

Happy Labor Day!

Abounding Inspiration

I just read an article online and thought it was so inspirational, I'd share with you.  It's proof that miracles happen everyday, but it's the acknowledgement of them that brings a smile to our lips and a song to heart.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Post-Graduation

What a week!  I’m still in awe of last Saturday’s events.  The day truly exceeded my wildest expectations and I’m on cloud nine!  Suffice it to say that May 17,2014 will live in my memory as long as I breathe.  As I made my way across that stage in the midst of a standing ovation, I felt the warmth of the love of those who have passed before me and knew they were with me on this momentous day.

Thank you to all who made this day possible.  For this, I am truly grateful!

I Will Try Again Tomorrow

“Courage doesn’t always roar.  Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, “I will try again tomorrow.”  Mary Anne Romacher

A very near and dear friend sent this quote on a card a few months ago.  As I look at it everyday, it reminds me small accomplishments lead to big ones and to take pride in the little as well as the monumental ones.  I, like many, become so engrossed in my main goal; my ultimate purpose, that I forget sometimes to step back and take a breath.  Life, I become to realize, is so short that we should have the courage to say, “tomorrow is another day-- I will try again then.”

Have a good weekend, everyone!

Helen’s World

Hi All,

I came upon a video about Helen Keller that was very inspirational.  Although she’s been gone for many years, her words for me still speak volumes about life, loss and the will to perservere.  Forgive my short blog.  I’m coming up on final’s week, so time is precious commodity!  Thank you all for reading and I hope you enjoy the video.

The Purpose Driven Life

I know it may sound cheesy, but I saw the quote below on Facebook today and fell in love with it.  It spoke directly to me, not only as I embark on another semester at Messiah, but about life’s principles in general.  Coming upon this quote seemed auspicious at this juncture in my life as I anticipate what my final fall semester will entail.  I thank everyone for their support as they continue to follow my unending journey.

"You know you’re surrendered to God when you rely on God to work things out instead of trying to manipulate others, force your agenda, and control the situation. You let go and let God work. You don't have to always be 'in charge.' The Bible says, 'Surrender yourself to the Lord, and wait patiently for him,' Psalm 37:7a (GWT). Instead of trying harder, you trust more. You also know you’re surrendered when you don’t react to criticism and rush to defend yourself. Surrendered hearts show up best in relationships. You don’t edge others out, you don’t demand your rights, and you aren’t self-serving when you’re surrendered."

From The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren.

Ralph

In recognition of Independence Day, and on behalf of UCP Central PA, I’d like to introduce you to their mascot and my new friend, the Ability Bear.  As I sit at my computer, my little bear, Ralph, as I named him, looks at me with a smile, encouraging all of my daily endeavors.  Bold words, “No Limits,” are imprinted in yellow on his green shirt.  Over the years, I developed my own sense of the word. Now, thinking about it, I realize my life has been chalk full of examples.

Even as a young child, I grasped the concept of “no limits” and never let it go.  I went to weekly physical therapy sessions and eventually strengthened my body so I had the ability to move with greater ease. Graduating from high school on time was another defining moment in my quest to prove my “ability.”

Another example in my life was the naysayers who said I wasn’t college material. Fortunately, for every individual who discouraged me and tried to impose limits on what I could and couldn’t do, there were others who provided encouragement and told me I could do whatever I set my mind to. I believe a 3.88 GPA at Messiah College shows who got the better of that argument.

At the beginning of every semester, I encounter a seemingly insurmountable amount of classwork. But through hard work, persistence, and determination, I always manage to complete it. Finally, my work as an intern in the UCP Development Department proves there are no limits to my ability to be an integral resource for any prospective employer.

So, on this Independence Day, it is my fervent Hope that Ralph’s exhortation of “No Limits,” along with examples from my own personal experience, serve as a reminder that anything is possible, if only you truly believe in your abilities.

Miss Iowa

Today, I read such an inspiring news story that I felt compelled to share my thoughts with all of you.  It was about “Miss Iowa,” and how she does not let her disability define who she is.  I can definitely relate to this!  As someone who is differently abled, I know it’s very hard not to let my Cerebral Palsy define my thoughts and actions at times.  It dawned on me several years ago, though, if I dwelled on my disability, outwardly or inwardly, it would affect those who interacted with me, and I would become my Cerebral Palsy.  While I still fall into this pit at times, experience teaches me if I concentrate on life itself, it leads to a happier and healthier life.  So hats off to “Miss Iowa” because she is one of many who redefines what it means to live life with a disability!

Coming down the Home Stretch

Today, I took time to reflect on the fact I only have a week of school left of spring semester 2013.  That’s pretty amazing, if I do say so myself!  As each milestone passes on my remarkable journey, I sometimes stop to reflect on how far I’ve come in these last few years. This semester proved to be a rewarding, yet challenging experience.  Though I miss the life of academia, it’s always refreshing to be released from its duties.  Summer is just around the corner, and I’m ready to bask in its welcomed sun.  Let it begin!

Perseverance

Hi,

This is another inspirational clip I thought you would all enjoy.  It really shows what real perseverance means, at least, it does for me!

I hope you have a good weekend!
